Hello, I have been researching my ancestors, Christopher Ayres and Lois Huntley.  I go thru Marlow often on Rt 10 from Ct.  I have Christophers birth date in 1754, but not Lois, or their parents.  Do you have birth records at your town hall?

You have the most beautiful pitchers of your town on your site.  I enjoyed them very much.

Any Ayres or Huntleys can contact me at potterymom1@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Hello Marlow, NH

I just came into possession of an 1835 Marlow document (eBay purchase) that is signed by 3 Selectman (Willard A Baker, Allen Giffin and Amasa Mack). It also references several other citizens including Selden Brown, Nehemiah Huntley, Phineas Stone and Samuel Tenney.

Whenever I receive a document like this, I enjoy doing research to find out about the people behind the name and it also gives me a chance to learn about different cities and towns thoughout the United States.

While I live in Massachusetts and have a second home in NH, I had not heard of Marlow before looking into this document.

You have a very beautiful town and I congratulate you on an exceptional website and historical society that really helped me " bring this document to life".

We often take rides on our motorcycle from our NH home- your town is definately on my list to visit!

Thank you and a Merry Christmas to all in Marlow...

Hello Marlow

I am a long time friend of the Stewart’s as I grew up in New Jersey and went to school with Dave and Doug Stewart in the 1960s. I practically lived at the Stewart’s house as a kid.  Carol Stewart was our den mother in Cub Scouts, took us to neat places like the Morristown airport, a toy railroad train display in Springfield, and other places I can’t remember. She was/is the best.

I visited Dave and Doug when they moved to Marlow after we all graduated from high school in New Jersey.  I always liked visiting Marlow both in the summer and in the winter.  I haven’t been there since about 1974 or 1975 after I got out of college and I stopped in to visit.

With my work at JC Penney, I cover New Hampshire and New England.  One of these days soon, I will stop in to visit the Stewart’s again.  Dave and I stay in touch via the Internet and it’s always fun catching up with him and his family.

I noticed that my niece wrote in 2006 looking for relative history.

My name is Dave Aldrich/Thorpe – Norris and Dorothy Aldrich are my aunt and uncle, who lived in Marlow and had a cabin on Sand Pond. They had 4 sons – Ted (Theodore), Brad (Bradford and his wife Nancy), Ken (Kenneth) and Ben (Benjamin) and every year that I returned to the cabin they had at the pond, they had a new pot belly stove because a mouse had taken up residence in the stove and my Aunt Dot would not evict the critter. These critters also used to sit on the beams above you as you sat in the 2-holer outhouse and chatter at you.

Somewhere in this picture I understand that my mother, aunt and uncle, June, Ilene and Ted (Durwood) Avery used to have a large summer home on the opposite side of the Pond from my uncle (prior to 1929). If anyone has info about the Avery side of my family would love to hear from you.

My great aunt – Gertrude F Aldrich (never married) was buried in Keene (I think).

My grandfather, whom I never met was Charles S. Aldrich, and I understand was the postal delivery person in town. The house they lived in was the first house in Keene that had a second floor and a second bathroom on the second floor.

Somewhere in this history, was another Aldrich relative of mine that built many of the original business structures on Main Street in Keene – the widest main street through any town in the United States (or they used to have that designation?)

Aldrich, Thomas Merrill, b. Keene, Apr. 22, 1847, and Georgianna Whitehouse, b. Lowell, Mass., Dec. 15, 1849. Children: Charles Sewell, b. Nov. 25, 1870; Darwin Merrill, b. Dec. 8, 1871, d. Chickmauga Park , Ga., July 31, 1898; Gertrude F., b. Nov. 2, 1881.

I would like to be able to identify the name of Charles Aldrich’s wife – I have heard “Lena” once but do not know if this is a nickname or a birth name? Gertrude never married and until I dug up this info I never heard of Darwin ?

What are the possibilities I can locate the parents and grandparents of Thomas Aldrich and Georgianna Whitehouse?

Not sure if I still have the picture but Charles house in Keene was supposedly the first two-story house with a bathroom on both floors. I would like to know if the house still exists?

Thank you in advance for any information you can supply me. It is much appreciated.

Until later,
Dave

I have traveled through Marlow several times and always wanted to find out the history of the town. My maiden name is Marlow and my ancestors came over from Ireland and settled on the east coast somewhere before migrating to Canada and later to South Dakota. There used to be a town named Marlow in South Dakota near Clare City & Veblen, South Dakota. The town was removed from the map after they took out the post office. How do I obtain a book about the history of Marlow? I'd like to know who the early settlers were in the 1700-1800's. I'm anxious for your reply.

My original name is Dianne Aldrich. I am the daughter of Robert W. Aldrich. His father was Waldo Aldrich married to June (Avery). She had a sister Ilene Avery who mostly resided in Spain. I know many Aldrich relatives lived in the Keene and Marlow, NH areas. My father's cousin Brad and his wife, Nancy still live in the area in the summer. I remember visiting some of them many years ago as a young child. I didn't know if anyone out there may be a relative of my extended family who had a home on Sand Pond that I would be related to. I'd love to know more about the Aldrich Family in Keene and Marlow area.

Hello, my name is Lisa Insinga and myself and my family are from Long Island, NY. My husband Ron and I just bought 26 acres of Rt. 123 (Forest Rd.) on the Marlow/Alstead border. My husbands family has been vacationing at Spofford Lake since the late 60"s at the Brookhaven Cottages and we have fallen in love with Cheshire County and it's surrounding areas. We decided to start looking for land about 3 years ago in hopes of finding the perfect retirement/vacation destination. We finally found it in Spring of 2006 and are completely thrilled that one day we will be able to relocate and live in such a beautiful New England village such as Marlow. We look forward making a life for ourselves and our family in a such a lovely setting and look forward to meeting some of the wonderful residents of Marlow and Alstead.

With warm regards,

Hello! Just want to express my extreme gratitude for the recent posting of the cemetery headstones in the old Marlow Burying Ground.  I am a Richardson descended from Doctor William Richardson and wife Levina Teft.  It was great to find many other headstones as well from those in the Richardson family. The information posted on your site helped me to authenticate and correct much of the information that I had inherited on my family. Thanks again!!

Hello! I moved from this little town back in 1979 when my mother passed away. I miss everything about it. My name is Annette, daughter of Francis and Jeannette Venne. We lived on the northern outskirts, on Route 10 just before Sand Pond Road. We had nice neighbors, the Elliott's. I miss the snowmobiling with the visitors at the camps next door to us. I lived there from 1970 to 1979. Best time of my life. I will be checking back to this site to see if anyone remembers me. Hope so, would like to hear from you! I love that little town.

Dear Sir;

You have a very nice website.

The home page says "Granted in 1761". Can you tell me who made the grant, and to whom it was granted? Also, do you have any information available about the Mack family and the Gates family in relation to Solomon Mack and Lydia Gates Mack who are the parents of Lucy Mack Smith, the mother of the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith. Solomon and Lydia (Gates) Mack are said to have lived in Marlow for a number in years beginning about 1761. Would they, or their parents have been an original grantee in the 1761 Grant?

If you have any local information available which may connect to early Mormonism founders or their ancesters I would be very interested in purchasing what ever you may have. I would not be at all offended if the information does not agree with Mormon History.

Very Sincerely
Dee Allred daniela@ubtanet.com

Hello Dave, I'm the one who submitted a long reminiscence of my younger days (1933-1971) at our summer place on Spruce Knob, about a mile north of Forest Road at the Marlow-E.Alstead line. It got lost when your computer crashed, several months ago. The reports I've seen of the flooding in your area, especially from Lake Warren down to Alstead, are just incredible. We've suffered through our share of hurricanes down here in Florida, but I never expected that your area would be hit with this sort of disaster. Will you be posting photos of this event? By the way, I would welcome correspondence from anyone who remembers Marlow as it was in the abovementioned era, and some of these names: Perley Windham, Roddy Andrews, Fiske Perkins, the Whippie family, Mike Cheplick, Astor Moore, the Hubleys, Jerry Kercevich, Mr. Feuer, et al. My great-great-great-great grandfather, Eleazer Beckwith, was the Baptist minister in Marlow in 1779. He died in Marlow 16 Apr 1808. He was married to Hannah Lewis. Their son Abner was born in Marlow 15 Apr 1777. Abner married Mehitable Smith in Marlow. It is quite possible that Eleazer's parents, Daniel and Miriam [Smith] are buried in Marlow. I am looking for any distant relatives or kindly new friends who can help me fill in my Marlow family history. The early history of Marlow is also of interest to me. Contact me at <dabeck@mhtc.net>.
