PTA MEETING NOTES 1-21-09

The PTA meeting began at 3:15 pm and ended at 3:45 p.m.

There were 5 parents and 3 staff attending.

We reviewed the Treasurer’s Report that was distributed to all at the meeting.

The current working balance is $1051.35

We discussed other upcoming enrichment events/programs:

The “Keeping Tracks” Nature Program

This program will be presented to the school by the Conservation Commission on March 4th, during the school day.

Quilt Raffle to support Keeping Tracks Program

Marcia Levesque gave a preview of a beautiful quilt she is in the process of making to raffle off as a fundraiser to support this program

The cost of the Keeping Tracks program is $200.00.  Marcia estimates she should be able to raise  $250.00 from raffle tickets for the quilt.

Nancy will take care of printing up the raffle tickets.  Marcia will have the quilt completed for preview on the night of the School Concert on February 10th, at which time raffle tickets will be sold.  Tickets will be sold for $1.00 each or 6 tickets for $5.00.

A date for drawing the raffle ticket is still to be decided. Until the quilt is “raffled off”, Marcia suggested putting it on display in the chapel window.  Nancy also offered to post pictures of the quilt around the  town at various places.

Free Program by a Park Ranger (Father of one of the 1st grade students)

Kelly Snair suggested that Nate’s dad is a Park Ranger and at some time could present another type of nature program to the school that would be free of charge.

End of Year School Field Day - Notify Mrs. Tiani

Nancy asked the staff whether the P.E. Teacher, Mrs. Tiani, has been approached regarding the organization of activities for the annual Field Day for the school at the end of the year. Kelly Snair and Katie Gagnon said they could talk to Mrs. Tiani about that and inform her the PTA handles the snacks for that event.

The Sixth Grade Graduation

We need to get an exact count of 6th graders to plan and budget for the gift to each 6th grade graduate. We have an estimate of about 9 or 10 6th graders.  It was mentioned that last year we gave each 6th grader a $15.00 gift certificate to The Toadstool Book Shop

Teacher Appreciation Day.

We asked Kelly and Katie to have the teachers be thinking of a gift they would like that would be useful to them. We need to come up with an idea of a meal to serve the teachers for Teacher Appreciation Day. Marcia Levesque volunteered to head up activities for that.

February 10th School Concert

Most teachers will stay after school until the time of the concert.  Nancy suggested providing a dinner for the teachers, which we may do at the school.  Kelly Snair noted that one of the staff members has a seafood allergy, so we should omit seafood when planning food/meals for the staff.

Children’s Stage Adventures

This theatrical program is being presented to the school the week before April vacation.  Kelly Snair will get exact date and inform PTA.  There will be a day and evening performance put on.  There will also be workshops in the mornings to include the Kindergarten class.

6th Grade Wheelock Park Barbecue - End of May

The guidance counselor is looking for support for a 6th grade field trip that takes place at the end of May.  Several schools in the area participate and the students go Wheelock Park for a barbecue.  It gives the students a chance to meet and get to know kids from other schools who will be going to Keene Junior High.  A donation of money for food; perhaps a meat platter, etc. would be helpful.  The staff will check with the guidance counselor and get an exact date of the event and a list of needs that the PTA can assist with.

No February PTA Meeting

It was decided that we did not need to have a PTA meeting for the month of February. The next meeting date in March is to be announced.
