PTA Meeting Minutes – December 4, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 3:10 pm with 7 members and 1 staff
present.
Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer’s report was not available for this
meeting, as the statement had not yet come in. It will be presented at
the January meeting.
Craft Fair
Details were finalized for the holiday craft fair.
Lynne received a donation of 500 nice plastic bags with handles to use
for bringing home student crafts. Therefore, we will not need to use the
flat boxes this year. There have also been donations of tape, wrapping
paper, hot glue guns, cookies, juice, and veggies.
Volunteers were confirmed to run the craft tables.
Several youth group members are also expected to attend to help. Set up
will begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 7.
There was also a discussion on the gift baskets that
will be distributed to Marlow elderly from the proceeds of the craft
fair. Last year the baskets included gift cards to Hannaford’s and
other small items. If 40 students attend there would be $120 to use for
the baskets.
Future
Fundraising
Nancy mentioned that a representative from Genevieve,
the fundraising company, called her to ask if we will be doing our
fundraising through them next year. Nancy told him that the PTA will
decide at the January meeting and let them know in February. She asked
that P TA members bring their ideas for new fundraisers to the January
meeting for discussion. There was then further discussion about how hard
it is to connect with everyone, that the catalog items are not that
great, and that they seem so overpriced. Some people would prefer to do
direct donations instead.
Enrichment
Program
Nancy will get the application letters out this week.
Last year the deadline was before Christmas, but that seems to short
now. It was agreed to set the deadline for January 5.
Other
Food Drive - Mrs. Peterson had asked if
the school participates in any food drives. Marcia mentioned that it
would be possible to connect with the church food drive in terms of
delivery logistics. Food would have to be in to the school by December
15 for delivery on the third Sunday, December 17. Donations would have
to be non-perishable foods. Nancy will check with Mrs. Peterson on this.
Box Tops for Education - Tracy asked if the school is interested in doing Box Tops for
Education. Discussion followed on what this provides and how long the
expiration dates are. Box tops are labor intensive since they have to be
cut just right. Beth offered to be the coordinator. There was also
discussion about Campbell’s labels. Nancy said she will check into
this with Mrs. Peterson and get more information from the website.
CPR Certification - Tracy asked if staff
are required to be CPR certified and said that they all really should
be. She asked if PTA money could be used to cover training. Nancy
mentioned that this is currently and SAU-wide initiative and should be
covered by school budgets. Trainings are coming up in Keene.
Spirit Week - Nancy will talk to Mrs.
Peterson about doing spirit week again. The kids really seem to miss it.
Next Meeting
