PTA Meeting Minutes - September 19, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 3:15 pm with 4 members
and 1 staff present.
Treasurer’s Report:
The treasurer’s report was read and accepted as
presented. One upcoming
commitment is paying for the remainder of the sign cost for the front yard of
the school.
Election of Officers:
Due to few active PTA members, no officers were elected
at this meeting.
Sign Update
The sign is being made by Keene Sign Works and should be
delivered around the end of the month.
Playground Fund:
There is not enough money in this account to cover the
costs of the two remaining roofs on the large play structure, as originally
intended. Several years ago the
cost was about $1500. The fund
currently has just over $850. Discussion
followed about the need for the roofs at all. Other suggestions included using
“sunbrella” material at a lower cost (there was some concern over the
longevity), or perhaps looking into other playground equipment that might be
fun. It was agreed that the roofs
did not even seem to be missing on the structure, and looking into other
equipment might be a better use for the money.
Mr. Brewer responded that equipment ideas might include a “ball
wall” for handball type games. Stephanie
suggested replacing the tire ladder that was removed from the large climber
with another type of climbing equipment.
Collecting Cans
It was suggested to Marcia by a school grandparent that a
returnable can drive be set up to collect money to buy topsoil for the
playground lawn. That person
offered to oversee the project but asked for a place to store the cans. It was agreed that topsoil would be very helpful in growing a
better lawn and covering some of the rocks to make it easier to mow.
Discussion followed on how to store the cans to minimize bees and
pests. It was also suggested that
perhaps some of the playground fund could be used for topsoil.
It was decided to ask if the cans could be stored at the recycling
center with funds to be given to the school.
Fall Activities:
There was concern over being able to run the various fall
activities with the PTA’s current active membership. The following activities were discussed:
Fall Fundraiser - The fundraising
catalogs were sent home to students last week.
The next PTA meeting has been scheduled for Monday, October 3 at 3:00
pm to process and organize the collected money and fundraising forms.
Thanksgiving Dinner - It is unclear
how the dinner would run this year now that there is a full-time cook and hot
lunch program at the school. Marcia
will check into how or if the would work with the current food service.
Christmas Craft Workshop - It does
not appear that there are currently enough PTA members to organize this event
this year
Next Meeting:
Monday, October 3, 3:00 pm
Meeting was adjourned at 4:15 pm.
