CEMETERY CONDITIONS

Village Cemetery – Both Roxanne and Patty commented on how nice the Village Cemetery looked.  Mary noted that she is awaiting a return call from Art Schmidt as to whether he had any objection to the Sexton removing lilac branches and shoots from his yard which were encroaching into the Village Cemetery .  West Yard – no report.  Old Settler’s Cemetery – no report.

MONUMENT REPAIR

Roxanne and Patty reported that they had verified the monument restoration performed by John Clegg.  They commented that the repair store and stone setting was very satisfactory.  Although it was difficult to orientate their location with the map prepared by John Clegg and each particular monument; they were able to verify all of the monument restorations except for Orissa, Ruth Proctor and Lyman Adams.  It was suggested that future restorations should be identified with a fluorescent tape so as to easily identify the locations.    Mary noted that she had received an invoice for $2200.00.  Although the proposed budget covered 17 monument restorations it appears that John Clegg restored 16 monuments.  Mary added that she would contact Mr. Clegg and inquire as to which monument he did not restore before paying the invoice.  Mary noted that the Sexton would be removing any broken monuments and placing them in storage before the snow fall.

Recording of Cemetery Platting

Mary stated that the platting of the new section of the Village Cemetery has been recorded at the Registry of Deeds.  She submitted an invoice for reimbursement of the $25.00 recording charge and the $26.00 Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP).  Although Mary received reimbursement, the Selectmen requested that future charges of this type be submitted through a direct invoice or credit card statement.

McCourt Trust

Mary indicated that she had been contacted by the administrators of the McCourt Trust inquiring whether the Trustees would be interested in having the trust turned over to the Cemetery Trustees.  She noted that under the current administrator, the trust is liable for $1075 in taxes and $344 in administrator fees.  There would be no tax assessed or administration costs if the trust were administered by the Cemetery Trustees.   Depending upon any stipulations that would be established by the Probate Court; the trustees would receive the interest per year that would be used to carry out the wishes of the benefactor.  On motion by Roxanne, voted unanimously to indicate the interest by the Cemetery Trustees in having the Trustees of Trust Funds responsible for the management of the McCourt Trust.
