Cemetery Trustees

Trustees of Trust Funds / Cemetery Trustees / June 4, 2007

Present:

Cemetery Trustees:  Mary Blank, Lucille Gorges, Roxanne MacConnell, Gerry Plotts

Trustees of Trust Funds: Mary Blank, Lucille Gorges, Patty Little

Minutes on the Web Site:

Mary reported that she has received a request to post the minutes on the web site.  No objection was raised other than the posting should be after the minutes are adopted.

Village Cemetery:

Mary reported that Vermont Hillside had mowed the Village Cemetery on May 23.  Due to the weather, the grass has grown very fast since then.  The next scheduled mowing is for the following week.  Many volunteers readied the Village Cemetery for Memorial Day.  Mary Blank painted the bench and cleared the area around the large Maple tree.  Carol Jones planted petunias and spread new mulch and Al Blank repaired the bench.  Mary noted that it was important to establish a value for these in-kind donations because in the future the town may not have the volunteers for this kind of work and may have to justify additional budget requests to maintain the level of care that the cemetery currently receives.

Deeds - Village Cemetery:

Mary reported that pursuant to RSA 289:18 there is certain information that should be included on the deed with respect to the notice of forfeiture procedures.  She noted that either the Trustees could create an addendum to the actual deed or they could crate a new deed with all the pertinent and required information.  Ed Goodrich, who is performing the Village Cemetery survey, suggested that new plot owners be required to monument their plot with concrete markers within a specified minimum amount of time.

Purchase of String Trimmer:

Mary reported that she had prepared an invoice for the string trimmer in the amount of $242.00.  The intent would be to have the Town Highway Department purchase the trimmer for their use.

Available Lots - Village Cemetery:

Mary reported that several plots were still available for purchase.  They included 351 and 353 as four plots and lots 305A, 306A, 307B and 309A as cremation plots.  She continued that further research is needed on lot 314 which was turned back to the town in 1994.  It was originally purchase by James White on December 21, 1987.  She continued the ongoing review of the cemetery files has identified the fact that lot 168 in the 1905 area is available for anyone who cannot afford to purchase a plot.

Toppled Monuments - Village Cemetery:

Mary noted that there are a number of toppled stones in the Village Cemetery.  There is also a dead bush at the Miller Plot (lot 100) in the 1856 section and dead iris leaves in the Whitney Plot in the 1905 section (lot 17).  Mary inquired what the Trustees’ policy was when there is no perpetual care and whether a policy should include the cost of up righting and cementing the base to the stone?

Survey - Village Cemetery:

Mary noted that the Cemetery Trustees would be meeting Edward Goodrich on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at the Village Cemetery.
