Library Media Release
For
immediate release: April 9, 2010 Contact
for more information: Marlow Library Trustee, Kate McNally 209-5033 In
celebration of National Library Week (April 11-April 17), The Marlow
Town Library is holding a special “Author’s Reception” and
book signing on Saturday, April 17th from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
The reception will feature local authors Dave Eisenstadter, Loisanne
Sargent Foster, and Donald Dunlap. Dave
Eisenstadter is a prizewinning reporter and photographer for the Monadnock
Ledger-Transcript in Peterborough, NH. His book, The Weight of
the Ice, the Northeast Ice Storm of 2008 covered the ice storm
nearly every day through December 2008 and well into the recovery
efforts in 2009. Along the way he met the many fascinating people who
underwent severe hardships and gave many hours of their time helping
their neighbors cope. The Keene Sentinel called his book “rich and
colorful, with golden nuggets of Yankee humor “...(Eisenstadter) has
clearly researched the story in great detail from many
angles...ambitious in its scope...a good read and an excellent record of
a devastating time. --Keene Sentinel Oct. 25, 2009. Eisenstadter is an
editor at Stemmer House and Avocus Publishers in Gilsum, NH and lives in
Keene, NH. Loisanne
Sargent Foster has lived in Marlow since 1989 and hold a B. Ed. And
M.Ed. from Keene State College and an M.A.L.S. from Dartmouth College.
She taught in the Claremont schools , primarily English, remedial
reading, American Studies and Humanities, and she continues to work
there part time in various capacities. Her articles, stories, and poems
have been published in The Snowy Egret; The Leaflet (Journal of the New
England Association of Teachers of English); The Monadnock Ledger; many
journals of the Plymouth Writers Group including its ten year anthology,
Life in the Classroom; Entelechyinternational, and the 2010 Poets’
Guide to New Hampshire. While Foster’s work shows her love of people
and the natural world, it is spare, relying on a few sharp images to
engage the reader. Donald
A. Dunlap is a furniture maker who lives in Marlow and makes antique
reproduction furniture in the style of his ancestors from the 1700 and
1800’s. He and Philip Zea co-wrote a book, The Dunlap
Cabinetmakers: A Tradition in Craftmanship. The
Dunlaps of New Hampshire began making fine furniture in the mid-1700s.
Their distinctive tables, chests, chairs, and clockcases have their
origins in the traditions that the Scots-Irish brought to the New World.
Most Dunlap works are now in museums where they are studied by scholars,
but thanks to the book's detailed scaled drawings and Donald Dunlap's
construction notes, woodworkers can undertake the challenging
proportions and ornament practiced by the Dunlaps. ********** April Library program April Library program / On April 17 from 3-4:30 PM / there will be an author's reception and book signing featuring local Marlow authors.
