The Board of Trustees for the Marlow Town Library met on February 4, 2008 at 7 p.m.

Present at the Library were: 

Jeanne Kennedy, Chair; Donna Chase, Treasurer; Joyce Lanier, Secretary; Alice Scharf, Trustee; Patricia Strickland, Librarian; and Faith Conley, Trustee.

Secretary’s Report:

The minutes of the January meeting were read. Jeanne Kennedy moved that the minutes be accepted into the record with addition. The addition is “Donna Chase was approached after 12/3/07 Trustee’s Meeting to donate to an event honoring Sandra Cunningham and Margaret Wyman.” Alice Scharf seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Donna Chase reported that the beginning balance forward of the 2007 Business Account was $7,366.85. With $574.02 expended and a deposit of $20 this left a balance of $6,812.83 as of January 31, 2008. Motion: Joyce Lanier: to accept into the record the Treasurer’s report without correction or addition. Jeanne Kennedy: seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

  Old Business:

The trustees discussed the cataloging project and decided to offer the work to staff and then posting the position and hiring someone if staff do not want to do the project. Budget for 2008: The proposed 2008 budget was discussed. The technology line item at $3200 includes $1200 for satellite internet, $1500 for two new desktop computers, $250 for the copier service contract and $250 to pay a computer person for services rendered. Paul LaFreniere has offered to consult on the purchase of 2 new computers for internet access and will donate his time. Discussion was on investigating an Internet Provider either “Wild Blue” or “Hughes Net.” The trustees should obtain references of names and phone numbers of people who have utilized their services.

New Business:

Bylaws: Trustees decided to start revisions at future meeting.

Other:

There is a need for new trustees. Jeanne is retiring after many years being the Chair of the Trustees. Everyone will miss her and appreciate her many years of devotion to the town.

Jeanne brought up the need for an update to the town report for this year. She will do this as one of her final acts as the Chair of the Library Trustees.

Meeting Adjourned:

Jeanne Kennedy made a motion to adjourn at 8:23 pm. Alice Scharf seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.
