Secretary’s Report

The minutes of the previous meeting, June 5, 2006, were read. Jeanne Kennedy moved, and Johanna Kent seconded the motion, that the minutes be accepted into the record without correction or addition. The motion passed unanimously.

 Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Donna Chase was absent from the meeting. It was reported, however, that the Library closed the account with Bank of America in August. The Business (Operating) Fund is now serviced by the Connecticut River Savings Bank.

Old Business:

  1. The two book clubs, taking the place of the official summer reading program were reported to have been a great success. Special thanks to the facilitators the those clubs, Donna Chase, Marcia Levesque, and Paula Cernonowicz.

  2. As decided earlier in the year, the Library as an institution will take no active part in this year’s Harvest Festival.

  3. Looking into Card Filing software was placed on hold until the Library’s computers are in working condition.

  4. Reviewing and updating the Library’s Policies was put on hold due to time constraints.

New Business:

  1. Shelli Silk-Huntley, one of the assistant librarians, has verbally resigned the position. A formal letter of resignation is to come.

  2. Marcia Levesque has asked the trustees if there was interest in doing a “coffee table“ for December‘s “Christmas on the Pond“. As with this year’s Harvest Festival, trustees decided to privately enjoy the event without doing a formal money-maker.

  3. The trustees have been asked by the Library janitor, Deb Kuffel, about a new vacuum. The treasurer will be consulted before this matter proceeds.

  4. Pat Strickland reported that assistant librarian Jen Brown has asked to use the library computers (when fixed) to set up the Marlow Elementary School Library. Jen will not doing this work during her Saturday working hours. Jan Lane moved that Jen be permitted to do this. Jeanne Kennedy seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

  5. Pat Strickland presented four books donated by Sandy Cunningham with money she was given at her retirement. The books were accepted, with gratitude, by the trustees.

  6. Alice Scharf presented the idea of the Preschool Lending Library to be housed in the Town Library. This idea had been officially presented by Gayle Reynolds in the November 3, 2003 trustee meeting. Then, as now, the idea was vetoed due to a space issue.

  7. Pat Strickland brought up the matter of the security light on the Church Street corner of the building. It appears to be irreparably damaged by from a mud wasp’s nest and needs to be replaced. Decisions about the light were tabled at this meeting.

Meeting Adjourned:

8:30 PM

Next Meeting:

Monday, October 2, 7 PM at the Library.

Respectfully submitted
Jan Lane, Secretary
