The Board of Trustees for the Marlow Town Library met on May 1, 2006, at 7 PM.

Present at the Library were: Jeanne Kennedy, Chair; Donna Chase, Treasurer; Jan Lane, Secretary; Johanna Kent, Art Director; Alice Scharf, and Librarian Pat Strickland.

Secretary’s Report:

The minutes of the previous meeting, April 3, 2006, were read. Donna Chase moved, and Johanna Kent seconded the motion, that the minutes be accepted into the record without correction or addition. The motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Donna Chase reported that the balance in the Business (Operating) Fund is: $10,143.43 as of April 30, 2006. Donna also reported that she is looking into a Bank of America service charge of approximately $15 per month and will close the account with Bank of America if the account continues not to be free.

Old Business:

  1. Elections were held for the offices of Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Marlow Town Library Trustees. Jeanne Kennedy continues to be Chair of the Board. Donna Chase and Jan Lane continue in their offices of Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.
  2. The Trustees are now looking into computer software that would simplify the process of placing the library’s inventory on computer for insurance and other purposes.

 New Business:

  1. Johanna Kent brought the problem of non-delivery of the newspaper to the attention of the board. When the Keene Sentinel placed a coin box by the library’s entrance, it was with the agreement that the Sentinel would  provide a free newspaper to the library on a daily basis. However, the paper is only being delivered on Mondays and Thursdays. Jeanne Kennedy volunteered to call the newspaper.
  2. Donna Chase reported that a splinter group from The Fireside Reading Club may be  forming. The Fireside Book Club, led by Donna Chase, Marcia Levesque, and Tracy Cohen is for children in grades 3-6. The new  group, which may be led by Marcia Levesque and Paula Ceronowicz, would meet the needs of younger children ages 3-8.
  3. Johanna Kent informed the trustees that some Library patrons are insisting on technical computer help. After discussion, the Trustees decided that the Librarian is not to be pulled  away from her duties to teach computer skills. The computer system is installed for the Librarian’s use; however, two other monitors are added onto the network as a courtesy for library patrons who can use them without help from the Librarian or other library patrons.

Meeting Adjourned:

8:37 PM

Next Meeting:

Monday, June 5, 7 PM at the Library.

Respectfully submitted
Jan Lane, Secretary
