Marlow Historical Society Minutes & Reports

June 2007

Executive Board Meeting Marlow Historical Society / June 5, 2007

Mary Blank, Candy Wiggum, Art Schmid, and Loisanne Foster were present. The meeting was called to order at 6:40 PM. The Secretary’s Report was read and accepted as amended. The Treasurer's Report was read, explained, and accepted.

Old Business:

Loisanne reported that Kathy Harvey is still working on the conservation of the Marlow Bride’s Quilt. Mary has taken down the 1976 quilt in the museum as the signatures are fading. We agreed that t too needs conservation.

Murray Hall: Al Blank repaired the Porta Potty. Mary washed and disinfected it. They set out and secured the bench for The Quiet Spot. The plaque still needs to be set in concrete.

Museum: Mary cleaned up the museum for its opening on May 27th.

Elms: Three elms remain to be planted: one at the school, one on the Newport Road triangle, and one other.

New Business:

Loisanne noted that Mardy O’Neil donated copies of will related to the Giffin family and Carol Hanson donated a copy of Ebenezer Beckwith’s will to MHS.

Mary has located Civil War muster tickets for many of the Marlow soldiers.

We tentatively planned a work meeting for June 21st with the object of staking and spraying the elms. Loisanne would contact John Asseng to be sure we would not conflict with Conservation Committee plans.

Hearse House: We plan to prep and paint it. Art Schmid volunteered to buy a long-lasting, flexible paint for the project.

Newport History Fair: Mary, Candy, and Loisanne volunteered to oversee the MHS booth. Mary will set up and break down. Loisanne will use the MHS Forum material to produce booklets on Marlow history for the occasion.

Monadnock Music Dinner: August 11, a Saturday night. Pat Gallup has given us her permission to use the Christmas Trees Inn again. Mary will reserve Jones Hall. Without Lydia Stevens to organize the concert and concert fund-raising, that falls on us this year as well. Mary will produce the solicitation letters. We will have an envelop stuffing “party.”

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Loisanne Foster
