Marlow Historical Society Minutes & Reports

April 2007

General Meeting Marlow Historical Society / April 19, 2007

“Wild and Wooly Weather”

The main feature of this meeting was a continuation of our Marlow Oral History with an emphasis on memorable weather events and stories. Charles Strickland and Adam Plumb were the main participants. Their stories were recorded on audio and also some are featured under “Marlow History” in our MHS Web Forum. Before the “Wild and Wooly Weather” program, we had a short business meeting:

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM. The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s Reports were read and accepted as read.

Old Business:

Mary and Loisanne explained the Marlow Bride’s Quilt Conservation Project.

We discussed an identification sign for the front of Murray Hall and decided that one should be placed on the building itself rather than mounting it a freestanding structure.

New Business:

Bruce McWilliams asked what has been done about the Old Settlers’ Cemetery. We were happy to explain that a path had been cut to it and trees cut around it. There are granite posts separating it from the surroundings, and there will be a chain linking the posts. This is the responsibility of the Town’s Cemetery Committee. Mary explained that some stones are down and others are buried, but the town now has a trust fund for the restoration of stones.

Mary explained that the Monadnock Music Dinner would be on a Saturday   in August this year, instead of the usual Friday.

Charles Strickland has recorded Marlow weather for the National Weather Service for thirty years, from 1977 to the present. He brought his records to show, and Mary is going to place them in a binder.

The meeting was adjourned and the Oral History Project began.

Respectfully submitted,
Loisanne Foster
