Executive
Board Meeting / Marlow
Historical Society / Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 Present:
Mary Blank, Adam Plumb, Art Schmid, Candy Wiggum, and Loisanne Foster The Secretary’s Report was read
and accepted as read. The Treasurer’s Report was read, explained, and
accepted as read. Old
Business: We
have paid another $50.00 toward the Murray hall painting, reducing the
debt to $600.00. Art
Schmid asked what remains to be done at Murray Hall. We spoke of
windows, electrical work, and finishing the interior. We agreed that,
now that the building is sound, electrical work should be next. Accolades:
We congratulated ourselves on the huge success of the Christmas program,
which was entertaining and popular and termed by some, the best they had
seen. Several people expressed a wish to be involved next year. Although
some wish to see the exact same program next year, we plan to do a
variation on the theme. Adam
Plumb reported that, because some of the land owners involved did not
respond or declined to allow their property to be used, he cannot carry
out the Eagle Scout Project of the History Trail, so he is planning to
do a project on Marlow’s Profile (rock face) instead. We agreed to
help him all we can. We
agreed that Loisanne should contact Kathy Harvey to ask her to carry out
our Marlow Album Quilt Conservation Project, as previously outlined, at
the cost of $250.00. Mary, Candy, and Loisanne each pledged to
contribute $40.00 to complete the funds required so we will not have to
draw from the general fund for this project. Candy
asked if we had talked to Tony Davis yet about transforming “the
island” by the old Marlow Cafe, the Newport Road Triangle, into a more
welcoming entrance to town along Route 10. We have several more elm
trees, which we propose to plant there. Mary will discuss this with Tony
Davis and appropriate authorities. Adam suggested that we contact the
Agriculture Department at UNH as an inexpensive alternate source of more
trees. New
Business: Art
requested software and instruction for the Treasurer’s work. The
Pot Luck Supper and Work Night to kick off the new year will be held at
6:00 PM, Thursday, Jan 18. After supper and a brief business meeting, we
will work together on the membership renewals and fund drive. Annual
reports will be available. We
discussed the 2007 calendar. For the February meeting, several possible
topics were suggested for our ongoing Oral History Project: Historic
Marlow Romances, Marlow Sports Stories, and Wild and Wooly Weather. March
will bring our “Meet the Candidates Program” and the food concession
at the Town meeting. We decided to lighten the complexity of the food
offerings, but have just coffee, cold drinks, breakfast foods and
dessert finger-food. [Later, when the Town Warrant came out with 29
articles, we changed this to include soups and breads.] We
need volunteers willing to handle the business of the Monadnock Music
Concert (which has never been our responsibility) as Leon and Lydia
Stevens are no longer available to take care of it, and, of course, we
plan to carry out our Monadnock Music Dinner, traditionally our largest
and most labor-intensive fundraiser of the year. Other
suggested programs: Tracy
Messer, speaking on the history of PC Connection. The
scuba diver from Maine, owner of the Terra Cotta Pasta Co., who
regularly dives into the Ashuelot behind our dam and brings up
interesting artifacts. He has expressed willingness to speak to us about
his finds. Respectfully submitted, Loisanne Foster |
