We Were Able To Fix Trail 392
Posted 05/08/2008

The Hidden Valley Sno-Riders have begun getting trails ready for next years snow!. We are trying to eliminate the wet spots we had last year so we will be able to ride when the white stuff is on the ground. Thanks to Bud and Joe, Lyle's trailer, John and his Mule, David's trailer hitch and CBS's gator, we were able to fix trail 392 on Marlow Hill near the crooked bridge.

Thanks
Posted 11/26/2007

The Hidden Valley Sno-Riders would like to thank the good folks that registered your snowmobiles last year. The money from the registrations allowed us to get a Bureau of Trails Construction grant to replace the bridge over Whittimore Brook on Trail 393 in Marlow. That grant bought all the materials but it takes a lot of labor and donated equipment to complete the task. Thanks go to Bruce Warren, Gus Merwin, Jack Strickland, David Collard, and Gregg Hopkins for removing the old beaver dam built out of our bridge. Scott Taylor, Gus Merwin, David Howard, Scott Chase, Ryan and Charlie Strickland all helped build the new bridge. Hope you like what we did. See you on the Trails.

Jim Strickland, Marlow Trailmaster

HELP needed for Marlow and Lempster Snowmobile Trails

There are a lot of open water and mud holes in our trail system due to the insulating effect of the snow we have been getting. The frost has come out of the ground creating a lot of water and mud holes. We can fix these by building “corduroy roads” thru these sections.

If everyone could fix the ones near their home, we could put the trails back in operation.

A corduroy road is a structural unit composed of a series of logs or other material placed perpendicular on the trail to provide a method of crossing wet areas.

They can be built by:

  • Laying a mat of green brush, posts, or small logs parallel to the direction of the trail.
  • Use geotextile fabric or other appropriate bedding if needed.
  • Cover the mat with a series of logs laid side by side, perpendicular to the trail. ( logs work best as it will allow travel over them without getting skis caught or groomers caught in the material. Pallets usually result in both skis and groomers getting caught)

This is time consuming, but if done correctly, we shouldn’t have to do it again this winter.

Thanks
Jim Strickland, Trail Administrator

Thanks To All

26 Jan 2008

The 7th annual pasta dinner that Hidden Valley Sno-Riders put on was another success.

Thanks to the ODD FELLOWS for the use of the Hall.

We took in $721.33 for the dinner after costs; this money is donated to Easter Seals at the Ride-In on the first weekend in Feb. It helps run Camp Snomo for kids.

Thanks to Dave and Nancy Vesco for running it and again, Dave’s great sauce.

Thanks to Jeff Plaisted, David, Bonnie and Terry Collard, again, Terry’s bread sticks a big hit - Jim and Pat Strickland for set- up, making brownies and serving. Maria Baril for serving dessert and set –up, Joe Baril for selling tickets and collecting at the door,

Bud Jackson for collecting at the door. Penny Despres, Nancy and Maria for cleaning tables and everyone else for cleaning up after it was over.

We are all volunteers and it is wonderful to see people coming together and helping for a good cause. Thanks to everyone in town for the sense of community and coming out to support us in raising money for our cause.

We won’t know until after the ride-in in Feb but we are approaching 2 million dollars in donations in the time that Snowmobile clubs have been doing this. So thanks again - every bit helps.

Regards

Gus Merwin
